Children’s Jewellery Class and Colourful Beaded Wrap Bracelets
While I was still working at my old school, I ran a six-week ‘Golden Time’ jewellery-making club for the Year 6 girls (the boys were welcome but not interested). I showed them how to make Chan Luu style wrap bracelets, using colourful wooden beads and an additional twist of woven embroidery thread sections. All 9 girls absolutely loved it, and over the 45 minute sessions we had once a week would chat away while I helped them all slowly make their bracelets. The woven embroidery thread part of the bracelets was the most fiddly and time-consuming, but well worth it as it adds an interesting touch.
I love how each girl’s bracelet is different and unique. They all made them long enough for either two or three wraps around their wrists.
The sessions were so succesful, and so much fun that I am now seriously considering running jewellery-making parties and workshops for kids around Cambridge. What do you think?
