Project Thirty Five: Two Cushion Covers with a Sheepy Theme

Mr. B’s mum is quite fond of sheep, so when Mr. B spotted some bright sheep fabric when we were visiting Gothenburg in December he had to buy it for her, with the plan being that come her birthday I’d use the fabric so sew something for her. Well, it’s her birthday this week, and it just so happens that she has recently bought a new sofa, so we thought it would be a good idea to turn the fabric into cushion covers, and they look brilliant!

Originally the plan was to have a concealed zip in the back of each cushion, but when I rooted through my zip stash on the night that I was sewing these (the night before the morning that I wanted to post them!) I discovered that I had no more zips long enough. I settled for envelope openings and actually I think they look just as good.

For some contrast  I made piping out of black fabric and also used black fabric for the back of the cushion covers. I bought two 20″ cushions and made the cushion covers 18″ squares to give the finished cushions some plumpness.

Don’t they look great! I do hope Mr. B’s mum likes them.
